[ARCHIVED] Mont. Co. Recorder of Deeds and Treasurer to Notorize Emergency Absentee Ballots

NORRISTOWN -- Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds Jeanne Sorg today announced that prior to the May 21 Primary Election, she will collaborate with Treasurer Jason Salus during regular business hours to notarize emergency absentee ballot applications on behalf of voters who need them. This service will be free of charge.

“Our office offered this service before the General Election last year; the need for it was evident,” Sorg said. “We strongly believe that citizens should exercise their right to vote, no matter what unexpected life events may arise.”

Sorg’s office notarized 36 emergency absentee ballots prior to the General Election of November 2018.

“We were thrilled to assist so many voters last year,” Sorg said. “We are teaming up with the Treasurer’s office this election to ensure we reach as many people as possible.”

Montgomery County Treasurer Jason Salus agreed.

“We are proud to be able to help everyone who wants to vote cast their ballot in this election,” Salus said.

The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot was Tuesday, May 14. The completed ballot must be received at Montgomery County Voter Services by Friday, May 17 at 5:00pm to be counted.

However, if a qualified emergency arises after the regular absentee ballot application deadline has passed, certain voters may still be eligible to vote by emergency absentee ballot. Possible emergencies include illness or necessary absence from the voting municipality. Voters need to obtain an emergency absentee ballot application from Montgomery County Voter Services, or online, before having it notarized at the Recorder of Deeds’ office or Treasurer’s office. For more information about emergency absentee ballot applications, visit VotesPA.com.

The Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds’ office and the Montgomery County Treasurer’s office are open Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 4:15pm. An appointment is not necessary for emergency absentee ballot notarization, but voters are encouraged to call ahead to ensure notary availability. For additional questions, please call the Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds office at 610-278-3289.
