The Montgomery County Commissioners proclaimed October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month and they, along with the Domestic Violence Legal Network of Montgomery County, recognized Laurie O’Connor, Director of the Office of Children & Youth, as this year’s honoree. First Assistance District Attorney, Kevin Steele, and Montgomery County Child Advocacy Project Executive Director, Mary Pugh, introduced Ms. O’Connor and praised her significant contributions to the protection of children locally and state-wide. “It is her ability to engage others and collaborate effectively that makes her so successful” stated Mary Pugh. Ms. O’Connor graciously accepted the honor while pointing to the exemplary work of the 150+ staff members of the Montgomery County Office of Children & Youth that work tirelessly to support difficult and often dangerous family situations in order to keep children and families safe.
