Region 2 Educational Programs Winter/Spring 2023

Saturday January 28th at 1:00 p.m. 

Winter Tree ID Made Easy 

Join us for tips and tricks to identify native trees and shrubs in winter. No leaves? No problem!   We will learn to identify trees by their bark, fruits, twigs and buds. 

Meet at picnic pavilion, Hill Road Day Use Area (2821 Hill Road, Green Lane PA 18054). Ages 8 and up, pre-registration required. Call (215) 234-4528 to reserve your spaces.

Animal Tracks and Signs

Many of the park’s wild inhabitants are active at night and seldom seen. Join us for a closer look at reading the “signs and signatures” left behind. We will investigate tracks

(hope for snow-cover), scat, rubs and other signs left behind by our wild neighbors. Meet at Walt Road Boat Launch (1051 Walt Road, Pennsburg PA 18073). Ages 6 and up. Pre-registration required. Call (215) 234-4528 to reserve your spot.

Waterfowl Watch

Join us in a search for migrant ducks, geese and swans in Green Lane Park. Don’t be fooled by the date, spring migration should be going strong at this time. We will travel by car to 3 different hot-spots within the park. Bring binoculars and meet at Tennis Court parking lot (2298 Green Lane Road, Green Lane PA 18054)  Ages 12 and up. Maple Sugar Magic 

Bring the whole family to the park to experience the centuries old tradition of sugaring time. Our educators will demonstrate tree-tapping, boiling sap to make syrup, and “sugaring off”. In addition to the demonstration, we will have pure Pennsylvania Maple Syrup, candy and cream available for purchase.  All ages, free-of-charge. Meet at Hill Road Day Use Area (2821 Hill Road, Green Lane PA 18054)

Waterfowl Watch 

The spring migration of ducks, geese and swans continues. Come out to the park and enjoy the show! We will visit travel by car to visit 3 different birding hotspots within Green Lane Park. Color Your Eggs- Naturally!

Want a break from food-coloring tablets purchased at the grocery store?  Join us as we color eggs the way our grandparents did- using materials from nature! Bring a sense of adventure and a dozen hard-boiled eggs. You will be amazed at the colors to be found in nature.  Ages 5 and up with an adult. Spaces limited, pre-registration required. Spring Beauties- Wildflower Walk

Join us for a close-up look at our beautiful spring wildflowers.  We will learn tricks to identify the plants and share some myths and legends associated with some of the flowers.  Great opportunity for photographers. Ages 8 and up, pre-registration required. Meet at pavilion, Hill Road Day Use Area(2821 Hill Rd., Green Lane PA 18054)

Early Bird Walk

Spring migration of warblers, flycatchers and others will be in full swing.  Grab your binoculars and join us for a look at these colorful spring travelers returning from the tropics. Creek Critters 

Join us for a knee-deep and up-close look at life in the Perkiomen Creek.  Using nets, pans and magnifiers, we will examine the diverse creatures that make their home in moving waters. All creatures will be released unharmed at conclusion of program. Wear old sneakers or water-shoes. No open-toed shoes, please. Suitable for all ages. Free program, but pre-registration is required.
