Pennsylvania Lawyers for Youth is a non-profit organization offering educational advocacy for justice-involved youth transitioning back to public school after an extended detention or out-of-home placement. Students returning from placements are frequently two or more grade levels behind their peers so remedial services are critical to academic success. We expanded our Juvenile Law Externship with Villanova Law School to integrate PALY’s services for our clients. Externs who are also interested in educational law may receive additional academic credit to provide advocacy through joint supervision of deputy public defenders and PALY attorneys. Externs will work with local school districts to ensure that schools, students and their families are aware of special needs and services available to assist these students.
