How to Find Help

The primary means by which children and youth obtain mental/behavioral health services in Montgomery County is through Medical Assistance (MA). MA provides funding for behavioral health services, medicines, and medical care. More information about how to apply for MA can be found here.

Children’s services include:

Advocacy Services
Advocacy service options are available for parents and others interested in children’s mental health issues. These services can provide support, information, and referrals to organizations involved in the mental health system.

Student Assistance Program
SAP identifies students who are at-risk due to programs with drug or alcohol use, depression, or other mental health challenges.

Case Management
Case management services help with obtaining and coordinating other resources, including medical, social, housing, educational, or other needed services for the child and his/her family.

High Fidelity Wraparound
High fidelity wraparound is a family-centered planning process designed to improve the lives of children and their families.

Respite is a short-term out-of-home placement for a child, in order to help keep the family safe and stable. It allows a child and family to have a break from each other.

Treatment Services
Several different types of treatment services are available to children and adolescents. Depending on their needs, these may be delivered in either the home/community or an out-of-home setting.

Children’s Crisis Support Program
Montgomery County supports a 24-hour crisis hotline for children and adolescents up to age 18. The program also provides family engagement services for children and adolescents who are hospitalized in a psychiatric facility.
